I have been going to the Mexican shows for the past four years. I find them very laidback and easy going. The classes offered give one the opportunity to be in the ring many times. There are three puppy classes. There is Cachorro A for the 3-6 mth puppy, Cachorro B for 6-9 mth, Joven class for the 9-18 mth, Intermedia for 15-24 mth, Libre (Open)for over 15 months, and Working class for working breeds who have received their working titles and are over 15mths.Then you have the Especial class for Specials and the veteranos class for veterans. What makes it even more fun, is the fact that each Winner of the puppy classes for each breed and each age group get to compete in group, then on to Best in Show for that age group. So when time comes around you have BIS in Cachorro A, Cachorro B, Joven, and Adult BIS. The other really interesting point is that they also offer Best Mexican Bred in Show.To gain a Mexican Championship one must earn not only four excellent ratings, but four 1st place cards, and receive four winner’s cards. To receive your FCI international Championship, one must receive BOB or BOS. This is the simple version of how it works. So it is very possible to finish your dog’s championship for both in one visit. Your dog must be over 15 months before it can finish it’s championship.
Competing in an FCI country also makes life interesting as the groups are very different.
Groups
to me are always an interesting time. To see the mixture of breeds competing
at that level is always interestin
g.There are usually very few vendors at the show, so come prepared. The food
vendors are outstanding. there is some kind of food there for all. The show
committees and club members are very helpful.
Get ready for some oddities at the smaller shows. Some don’t start the
show until 10AM, or even 12PM. I have been caught in one ring, and have had
another ring, wait to start the next class until I get there. Over the years
I have made many friends, that I keep in touch with. I now include the Mexican
shows in my regular schedule for clients’ and my own dogs.To get more
information on the logistics of classes and titles please go to the following
