The Silk Cream has multiple uses.

Conditioning: Diluted eight parts water to one part conditioner and then apply to the coat. Leave on for two to three minutes and rinse. Always bath and condition in warm water. On the final conditioning rinse use cool water.

Treatment for damaged coat: Mix the conditioner 50% warm water and 50% conditioner. Pour the mixture over the coat working it through making sure to get full, even coverage. Once applied wrap the dog in a towel and place under a drier for five to ten minutes. The warm air from the drier will keep the hairshafts open allowing the conditioners ample time to penetrate. Once you are done rinse the dog with cool water to close the shafts back up. You will see immediate results after using the Silk Cream as a traetment.

Maintaining Furnishings: Place a small amount of the Silk Cream directly in the palm of your hand and distribute evenly through out the coat. This will help protect the furnishings in between bathings,

The importance of conditioners is realizing the mechanics behind them. Conditioners are meant to treat the hairshafts after shampooing, helping to replenish a naturally healthy look and feel to the coat. In order to choose the right conditioner for you consider the type of coat your dog has: drop coat, double coat, harsh coat, terrier coat curly coat, or smooth coat. Consider what you are trying to acheive: thickness, volumen or smoothness. This will help in defining the type of conditioner you are looking for. The ingredients of conditioners differ because the result you need differ.

Main Functions of Conditioners

Moisturizing Conditioners: These are conditioners that replace the oils removed by the surfactants in shampoos. These are compounds that hold moisture into the hair. The best coats for this type of conditioner are coats that become dry from over use of styling aids and products. Certain raw materials that help maintain moisture and are benefical are cetyl alcohol or stearyl alcohol as well as certain silicones like dimethicone. Finally lets not forget the essential oils, sea botanicals, and plant extracts such as prime rose oil, safflower seed oil, aloe vera, jojoba oil.
Protein Conditioners: Build body and temporarily helps the appearance of the hair. Protein conditioners like the Deep Conditioner work to volumize and repair the har shafts coating the hair shafts and ends with a layer of protein that gives the appearance of thicker hair. It fills in gaps if the outer cuticle is damaged, giving the hair a smoother look and adding shine. Protein conditioners like any other are a temporary fix and should be reapplied with every bath. Protein conditioners can be applied to fine and limp hair or hair that is damaged.
Anti-Static Conditioners: These reduce static and create manageability of the hair. After shampooing, the hair is usually tangled and unmanageable. Acidifier Conditioners have a low pH of approximately 3.5. This type of conditioner basically closes the cuticle layer of the hair, which in turn allows each individual strand of hair to remain separate from others. This helps the hair not tangle and creates more body. These type of conditioners can be used by all hair types. All the Pure Paws conditioners have a low pH to help acheive this look.
Detangling Conditioners are often separated from Acidifier Conditioners, but basically all detangling conditioners are acidifiers. However, some do have polymers added like silicone that will coat the hair shaft, making it look fuller.

Proper application of the conditioner is very important,. It is important to follow the directions on the conditioners or follow these simple steps. The correct amount is usually 1 part conditioner to 8 parts water. Pour the mixed solution over your dog’s coat - never apply a glob of conditioner to the hair directly Nules specified in directions. Apply even amounts of conditioner to the hair shaft and ends and always condition the ends or tips the most. Most conditioners, even instant, need to be left on the hair for at least 1 minute. Leave-in conditioners stay in the hair until the next washing and do not require a rinse, but these types of conditioners are for damaged or dry hair, they often weigh fine hair down. Just as important as the type of conditioner is the rinsing. It is important to rinse the conditioner according to the packaging instructions. Often times leaving too much residues of conditioner on the hair can attract dirt and dust, as well as leave you with a "greasy" feel. When combing the hair while wet, be very careful, hair is at its most vulnerable state when wet. This is when the most damage can occur.

Medulla
The medulla is the core of the hair. It is the supporting structure. Besides support, it also contains some of the cells that give hair its color.
Cortex
The cortex is the layer that takes up most of the hair shaft. The cells in this layer are elongated and packed together tightly like a rope. They are held together mostly by the outer layer, but also by disulfide bonds. The more disulfide bonds there are between the cells of the cortex, the curlier a hair will be. The fewer disulfide bonds, the straighter it will be. This layer contains most of the melanocytes that give hair its color.
Cuticle
The cuticle is the protective outer layer of the hair. It is made up of cells that tile over each other partially, like the scales of a fish. This is what both protects the cortex and holds the rope like cells together. A healthy cuticle layer is what gives hair its natural shiny appearance. If it is lost or damaged, the hair will look dull and become brittle because the cells in the cortex may break and unravel.
